Pancakes, Fire Play, and TikTok Dances: PEEK’s Mid-Term Magic

Young volunteers earned first aid certificates, kids mastered half-pizza wraps, and families shared laughter.

Three days of countless smiles and infinite fun. That’s what happens when play, creativity, and wellbeing came together at PEEK’s recent February Mid-Term break activities. And yes, it was as joyful as it sounds.

In just three days, team PEEK delivered:

  • 2 full-day Holiday Programme sessions at St Patricks

  • 11 Street Play sessions for families

  • 3 Thrive sessions for young people

  • First Aid certification for our young volunteers

St Patricks

For a second year in a row, we delivered our February Mid-Term break Holiday Programme at St Patricks, combining PEEK’s play and creative activities.

Activities

Across two days, we focused on connection, creativity and community with activities including dancing, clay making, painting, messy play, outdoor games and even pancake making. It was a great opportunity to spend time getting to know families better in a relaxed environment.

One morning highlight was our “Wake and Shake” dance. Inspired by the TikTok crush dance, kids taught the adults every move, and the energy was infectious. Parents and caregivers were fully engaged, shaking and laughing along, creating a moment that had everyone smiling from ear to ear.

Meals That Bring Everyone Together

Our food truck and community chefs prepared fresh, delicious meals each day, think dhal, tomato pasta, fresh fruit, and yoghurt for dessert. Sharing meals family-style in the main hall was a special part of our day, full of laughter and joy eating together.

In a time when many families feel stretched, these shared moments matter more than ever.

Corporate Partnerships: Making a Real Difference

Corporate partnerships, brought together by our team and donations from Primark Argyle Street Glasgow of hats, scarves, jackets and pyjamas, which were distributed directly to families, allowing them to choose essential winter clothing with dignity and autonomy.

Wellbeing Support: Care Beyond the Activities

Alongside play and creativity, our Wellbeing Support Worker was on hand throughout.

For some families, this was the first time they felt truly seen and supported.

Conversations that began over clay or pancakes and turned into guidance, signposting and practical support.

Street Play

Despite the chilly weather, our 11 Street Play sessions were packed with energy.

The highlight? Fire Play.

Children learned to chop safely, cook over an open flame, flip pancakes, toast marshmallows and make half-pizza wraps together.

“I didn’t know you could make pizza on a wrap!”

Beyond the excitement, something deeper was happening:

  • Teamwork

  • Risk awareness

  • Practical life skills

  • Confidence

Outdoor play builds resilience, and we saw it in smile.

Thrive sessions

Our young volunteers earned their First Aid certificates, gaining life skills while enjoying a break from school. From nervously approaching first aid mannequins to confidently bandaging peers by the end, their progress was incredible and amazing to watch.

Their hard work was celebrated with a well-earned dinner at Beijing Banquet, proving that learning can indeed taste delicious.

Three Days. Lasting Impact.

In just 72 hours, team PEEK created moments of:

  • Joy

  • Connection

  • Skill-building

  • Dignity

  • Support

These moments of joy will be remembered long after our programmes have ended. Play, creativity, and wellbeing aren’t just activities, they’re what PEEK encompass.
